brownies and more brownies...

just feasted on some really delicious brownies drizzled with a generous helping of chocolate fudge sauce compliments to my dear friend......just for accompanying her to hand in her history term paper. ^_^

Listening to michael jackson's "bad". Nice song...mJ's songs are just so evergreen even though his fame as the king of pop is has long faded. Hmm..

Took a really long walk from my hall all the way to the history department. Nice weather to take relaxing walks i tell you.. though alittle humid. Feel like bathing all over again.

Had my bio practical today. Found myself looking at preserved animals in their original form.. thanks to arsernic acid and alcohol...and i HAD to rub my nose before washing my hands after the prac. Feeling thoroughly 'contaminated' now. Then again, bathing doesnt really help does it?

Describe how successful the Singapore Zoo is in reflecting animal diversity.

That, was my essay question, which was to be completed and written in gp-like format, with a proper introduction, body, and sommary, within twenty-freaking minutes. Am prepared to get a bad grade (again) for this essay. Seriously need to pull up my socks and buck up! it's only mid term! geez

The prime of miss Jean Brodie by Muriel Spark was a rather enjoyable read...not merely because it's a short novel (only 129 pages long!).. but because it covers so many issues that were *gasps! surprise surprise* present since the 1930s.. issues such as lesbianism, feminism es cetra. Also, the descriptions were so vivid..such that i could literally picture the physical appearances of the different characters..partly due to the short video we watched during lit lecture. I'm starting to like lit..though 'the moonstone' is kinda slowing down my progress... into the second period of the story, but things are getting alittle dreary and boring..since i already know who stole the precious yet flawed (irony) jewel though not out of any evil intent. Bleah.

Alright, shall go off now. Hey people...tag tag tag! my tag board is facing stagnation yet again.
Ho ho ho...

changes.

chilling to keane's everybody's changing.

that song's so melancholic..so serious..to the point of being a bit depressing (in my opinion). But i love depressing songs, so long as they don't make me suicidal or anything bad.

I think it's time to give my blog a revamped look.
Need a nice template.. going along the lines of simplicity.
Will search for a nice black, white, greyish blogskin when i have the time.
Incorporate some animation before my blog appears.
Get rid of all forms of advertisements that should appear together with my blog page.
Attach some nice song to my blog... .... have a few in mind already.
Lastly, all these will not be possible UNLESS i find some IT-pro to help me with all the above.

before i end..here's a crazy piece of info that one of my friends posted..ahaha... SOME food for thought ayes..

yeps.
-will the real slim shady, please stand up, please stand up..-

compliements from a friend...

Surprise! Why the F-Word Is OK to Say

The f-word may be considered one of the English language's mostoffensive swearwords, but researchers from Victoria University in NewZealand report it may be okay to say it at work--under certaincircumstances.According to these daring researchers, saying the f-word within theconfines of your own work team helps to build and reinforce team morale, reports New Zealand's Dominion Post. They came to this startlingconclusion after analyzing the conversation patterns of a work teamlaboring in an unidentified soap factory.

The eye-popping findings:* The f-word was easily the most commonly used swearword.* When it was said within the context of this close-knit work team,it was not considered offensive.* Since the basic attitude in the group was one of friendlinesswhere the workers genuinely liked and respected one another, theycould use such oaths without being rude or insulting. "Forms of f*** occur frequently in certain contexts and serve a range offunctions, including the role of positive politeness strategy," wrotestudy leader and linguistics professor Janet Holmes in the internationalJournal of Pragmatics. "F*** is regularly associated with expressions ofsolidarity, including friendly terms of address."And there's also good news for work whiners! The study found thatcomplaining to a sympathetic colleague can help build solidarity amongco-workers.

The researchers defined whining as a "long or repeated expression of discontent not necessarily intended to change or improvethe unsatisfactory situation."
Complaining is an emotional release thatcan build rapport. "Teammates regularly have a moan to each other,"Holmes wrote in the journal. "Whining to a sympathetic co-worker bothreflects and constructs the close relationship between team members, thus consolidating the team's solidarity."

A word of caution: Swearwords, especially the f-word, must only be saidin the appropriate context. But the fact that it can be said at all at work and be acceptable isproof positive that our language is constantly evolving.

This adds to another reason for me to whine. hahahha.

flipped again.

this is the third and final time i'm going to try to blog for today.

Flipped in the afternoon after my second attempt at trying to blog was futile.

Spent some quality time with my block-mates just now. haha. Wrote my own name for the block's door gift, helped to piece a jig-saw of a jac russell terrier, plus watched tv for 3 hours. haha. Singapore idol's special on the 'unsung heros' was..well..ay okay. Really admired the courage of lily goh, who if you didn't know, is actually deaf, and how she still went to audition for singapore idol.

Dinner today was a cheeseburger plus fish dippers. Haha. And i was trying to swore off macdonalds. Ah well. No choice. Dinner wasn't provided in hall today. Many of them had to rely on kind souls who had to go all the way to fong seng or where-have-you to da pao a decent meal.
Or else, you could call for kfc or pizza takeaways. haha.

I'm still halfway through my first lit book, and sighs, i still have 5 more to go. Lit lectures seem to just whiz past me, and half the time, i find myself having no idea as to what's going on. Also, seems to me that uni life consists of reading and writing essays. Essays are quaintessentially a part of every subject, from biology to philosophy. Already, i'm feeling so overwhelmed with the cirriculum demands (just realised today that i have 2 essay assignments at hand, and both are due in october) and the essays bit. Mind you, i'm in science not arts. Really wonder how the artsy peeps cope with all the writing of essays. bleah.

My fingers are feeling numb. Shall stop blogging, and continue my 'quest' to complete reading 'the moonstone' and hopefully start on 'the prime of miss jean brodie' by this weekend.

ah la la.

flipped.

THAT just happened again.

Had this stinky premonition when i hit the 'publish post' button.
My whole entry vanished... just like that. Wah. Thankfully, it was just another one of my incoherent blabberings..then again, there's beauty in chaos man.

HEY BLOGGER..DO SOMETHING ABOUT YOUR SYSTEM! bleahs.

My inspiration's dry. Feel like a sponge in an oven now. Oven in reference to my sauna-like room, baking under the sweltering heat, the scorching sun, and literally no-wind outside.
h-e-l-p.

Having lit lecture later. Sigh, make-up lect. Totally an oxymoron if ask me. Whats there to make up? Seems to me more like lectures as per normal. WAhahah.

If thats not depressing enough, theres no dinner in hall tonight. Which means i'd have to
1) starve
2) eat cup noodles which i've unfortunately ran out of.
3) get some kind soul to da pao for me
4) get my lazy bum out of the hall and get some real food
5) call others along for dinner. Then again, lessons end at 7pm..those hungry people would have satisfied their empty stomachs by then.

Ah laa laa. The woes of a university undergrad. Bah!!

better than life.

I survived.
I actually did.
And i'm -still- awake... amazingly.

This week has been a hectic, crazy week; absolute madness.
Had tuesday and wednesday off 'cos of bio and chem prac. Week after the sep holidays is going to be mad again. Two pracs in the same week, two prac reports to submit, plus submission of food and health project. Had two tests (organic chem and maths) on thursday. Seems as though i have an afinity with the number 2 these days.. everything seem to come in pairs.

Organic chem test was killer. ( no surprises for guessing..hah) Everyone had the -seh- and -stoned- expression when they came out from the lt, me included.
ANYhow.. i'm just so glad that all tests are over.. and the hols are here. It's amazing how time just swooshes by .. as cliche as it might sound.
Really looking forward to the coming 5 days of holidays... as a time for reflecting.. renewing of the mind and heart.. refreshing for the physically strained and worn out body of mine. I can't believe i actually survived on merely 4-5 hours of sleep everyday from monday till friday.. and i'm still awake and fresh... Duh... if not i wouldn't be blogging right. ^_^

Bible study today was good. I feel so mentally renewed.
The verses and lessons today really reached me... i felt enlightened, reaffirmed, and comforted. The Bible...no doubt just a book... is awesomely powerful... that's 'cos it's the book of Life...the living Word... God's word. Period.

We are motivated to do good works because of God's pure and wonderful love for us.. because He was willing to reach to us.. to have a relationship with us. Doing good works should never be done so as to guarantee ourselves a place in heaven. Also, through doing good works, we are delighting ourselves in Him..worshipping Him...which is essentially, our basis for existence on this earth. Finally, we should never do good works in order to gain favour with men. Conversely, favour with men comes naturally, as an end-result, by doing good works solely with God in our heart and minds.

It's so crazy, this love God has for us.
He offers us eternal life, yet some of us choose to live a life leading to destruction.
He offers us an avenue to 'vent' our pent up frustrations, to air our griviences, to share our problems, worries , and fears through PRAYER...
We are able to trade our sorrow and worries for peace and joyfulness. So, why are we hesitating? Why do we always find ourselves dumbfounded when we pray? How can someone have nothing to tell God..nothing to worry about..nothing to fear ? Why do we always try to get someone else to pray on behalf of our group of friends ? It's weird how we humans are.. and i'm not going to try to comprehend our thinkings.

The Bible's definitely on my list of books to finish reading by the end of 2004. I will read through every single page.. with God's guidance and wisdom and his peace and his grace. :)

"Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything; by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus."

Phillipians 4: 6,7

miracles.

right. haha. sensed some sort of urgency to blog something new ever since that depressing entry about... ok. haha. i -am- and -will- get over him. No worries to all my concerned friends out there.. i won't turn suicidal or anything nonsensical. haha.

Was reading this nice jokes' book for comic relief when i was supposed to continue doing my maths revision. Had the urge to blog down what i read... i feel its so apt.. the question of miracles, and are they real.. has been on the minds of everyone sometime through-out their lives. But the crux of it all is... does God really exist? Is there any co-relation between God and miracles?

-This whole entry from this point onwards is taken whole sale from the book...hope my pastor doesn't sue me for plagarism. :) -

There are no miracles to the man who does not believe in them.
- French proverb-

The story begins...

A self confessed atheist was telling his friends about his adventures in the desert.
"I was lost. I was hungry and thirsty. I thought i was going to die."
"So what did you do?"
"i'm an atheist, and i don't believe in prayer. But in that moment of dire need, i decided to call on God to help me."
"and he did?"
"No, before he could do anything, the search party came along and found me."

I'm sure your thoughts after reading this passage are:
Did the prayer of the atheist bring the search party?
Or were the rescuers already on the way before he prayed?
Such questions are irrelevant since God, if He does exist, exists outside of time. (God is eternity) He could well hear the prayer of anyone long before he or she prays. Ultimately, whether we believe God answers prayer or performs miracles depends on our willingness to believe, as much as the evidence for such a belief.

I hope this penetrates through the tough spot in the hearts of those non-believers of such a powerful and wonderful God. The fundamental of Christianity is FAITH. With FAITH, we'll believe in God even though we can't see his physical being, then again, we -can- feel his presence near us... if we believe hard.

heartbroken. crushed.

Feel as though i've been betrayed..when actually i don't think i have been.

Heartbroken. Definitely. Then again, nothing really happened.

Crushed. That was what i felt when i saw him walking with two other girls during lunch and the fact that he seemed to act as though he didn't see me.

Disappointed. That's what i feel whenever i see him online, and i'm online and -yes- available for a chat, yet he doesn't talk to me.

Estatic. Always, whenever he does the simplest of things, like saying hi to me in the mornings; giving me taps on the back just so that i'll know he's around.

Think this -whole- thing is getting too far. Nothing and i really mean -nothing- like this has -ever- happened to me before and it's not going to get me down. it's not. At least i'm making sure it doesn't.

Maybe i'm thinking too much. Maybe it's all a one-sided affair. No wait. I am thinking more than i should, and it is one-sided.

There's an aching longingness to confess, but I know that if i do, i shall be regretting it for the rest of my life. Guess the best solution is just to contain this whole self-deprecating nonsense within me myself and to move on as though nothing has ever been felt towards him.

Shall morph into one of those feministic, independent, cynical, judgemental and sophisticated females of the twenty-first century.

sunflowers.

ok. the title of this entry has no relation what-so-ever as to what i'm going to blog on.

Major madness during this weekend plus the first three days for next week. chemistry and statistics test on thursday.
Had absolutely no clue as to what was going on for chem lect yesterday. the lecturer was literally speaking 'greek' through-out. Felt very lost after the lect, but had quite a good laugh while looking at everyone's stoned expressions. well, at least im not the only one who's lost right. ^_^

gosh. the radio's playing -my song- now...haha. Somehow, it allways makes me feel goose-bumpy and chummy whenever i hear it, and how the singer always emphasises the 'sa' part, and plays around with the 'ra' part. geez.

Hope this weekend's going to be smooth-going, full of mugging, but with some personal time for reflections and de-stress. Really hope the beach thingy during the september hols work out fine... beach volley! Frisbie ! beach soccer ! woo hoo!! ^_^

Shall blog more sometime this week.
Feeling mentally and physically drained, still.

major maluation day.

Have no idea what went wrong with the previous entry. The whole entry came out underlined, and i'm staring at the html code, with absolutely no idea what happened. Bugger. haha.

I'm starting to lighten up though the eminent datelines for my literature essay, my lab reports plus dreadful tests coming next week are never, try as i might, -disappear-. Had a meeting together with my fellow pineapple partner..haha. Ok, inside joke here. To cut things short, she's actually a third year life science student, concentrating in biomed! Yipee! more sources to scour for when im in need of help. Really nice and friendly person. I'm thankful that i happen to like most of the new people i meet in campus. haha. Notice the use of MOST. haha. People that i hate..okay, hate's too strong a word, tend to not like, are usually those ostentatious, pretentious sorts, which are not really evident in science. muahahaha. Sense some form of resistence from the arts people coming soon. ^_^ jokes jokes.

Back to my topic today. Had lunch with xuehui. Both of us were happily queuing at the yong tau fu queue..which was rather long, but isn't that the case for every stall in science canteen? Btw, signs of long queues does not imply good food. Bleah. Yes, was saying... i think both of us were yakking rather loudly after having bumped into my fellow aquaintance who happened to be in the queue too, suddenly, my friend caught the eye of one guy 2 persons in front in the q.
here was how it went.

"are you buying yong tau fu?" he asked.
"er..yeah...." we replied.
"oh! you have to queue at the other side, hand the bowl to the auntie before coming to this q." he answered.
"..............." -expressionless- ^_^
finally,
"thanks thanks!" xuehui answered.

MAJOR maluation. haha. Jane, you're not the only one with such malu freshie stories now. haha. Come join the club! muahahaha.

Second major maluation occured while taking the bought food back to our place. Ended up walking down the wrong aisle. Stared at the dead-end (without realising still!) until my friend suddenly laughed and called me to stop. haha.

And, is it weird to be in the same lift as someone you know, yet not say hi or anything?
Is it basic courtesy if u enter the lift first, to ask the other person what floor he or she is going to?

I see an eminent storm coming. Black clouds covering the sky.
At least the weather's not scorching hot ya.

Lastly..a tribute to xiubin, my dear friend; hope you get to read this. Really sorry, couldn't get to see you off on sunday evening. Have a great time in uk ya. Am sure forensics is WayYyyy more fun and intersting than life sciences. I'm banging myself again. hahahah. Keep in touch the moment you get a PC or at least paper, envelopes and stamps ya! ^_^ haha. Shall bug you with emails and snail mails very very soon! Take care dear friend! missing you already! :)

bugger.

Lab reports.
I'm overwhelmed with so much work.
Bio lab report, but that's due the week after next. Still! I'm one of those people that have to finish up any undone work although the dateline's rather remote. Will feel as though something's choked up in my already congested system. Humps.
Next, there's the *drum rolls* LIT ESSAY- on poetry..relating image and form or form and ... I'm lost already, i'm sure you must have no idea what i'm talking about. In dire need of some kind of help. Lit lit lit...
Also, there's the food project on pineapples. I'm suppose to gather info on pineapples...with a ready-draft by monday afternoon. now's sunday night..going monday morning... *gulps* and i'm not the slightest step closer to getting it written.

I'm supposed to read a 400 plus page crime-detective novel..._the moonstone_ by...prefably next next week. *feeling an eminent migraine*

Lastly, there's the studying for chem and maths test. And i have no understanding of bayne's rule. All the conditional probability and intersection laws are making me nuts. Have i mentioned how much i detest statistics?

*helpless, overwhelmed, feeling ULTRA bogged down..and wait..i'm only in year one. *

Midnight at the oasis.

Haha.
Title of this entry sounds super scandalous. No bad thoughts here ya.hahaha.
It's actually the title of a song in Renee Olstend's debut CD...
Love the girl. Love her voice.
Her voice is crystal clear, one of those unique, mature yet child-like ( she's only 14 for goodness sake!) and one of those musical kind of voices...

Her producer's David Foster. Haha. Basically that answers all my questions already ya. ^_^

Feel as though she's a cross between stacey kent and jane monheit.
Stacey's kent known for her wonderful and soulful voice..while jane monheit has that sophisticatedness expressed through her singing. Lethal combination if you ask me. Haha. What's more, Renee has good looks to boot.
Great voice, good looks (she has a resemblence to kristen dunst in one of her shots in the album cover) , plus a very promising future ahead... some people just have it all.

All of her songs are nice la. Haha. Can't think of a more specific word than that. Limited vocab--
Especially love it when she stretches and plays around with a particular note... when she does the 'I...ee..i...ee..' thing in ' midnight at the oasis'.
Lyrics of the song 'Love that will last'...i feel..is so.. so -there-. Haha. Okay, bad..what the heck does -there- mean. In a nutshell (hehs), it means that the lyrics speaks of everyone's inside thoughts... you actually find yourself going chummy, happy, yet sad, and lonely all at once. And it's amazing that such a young girl can express this song in such an evokative way. (haha, learnt the word evokative during lit..^_^) Who says young girls can't sing of mature songs? (think simon cowell said that of diana degarmo in last season's AMI ya..hehs)

Maybe i should pen the lyrics of 'love that will last'. You'll see what i mean...

i want a little something more
don't want the middle or the one before
I dont desire
a complicated past
i want a love that will last

Say you love me say im the one
don't kiss and hug me
and then try to run
I dont do dramas my tears dont fall fast
i want a love that will last

I dont want just a memory
give me forever
don't even think about...
saying goodbye
'cos i..
just want one love to be enough
and remain in my heart till i die...
so...
call me romantic
i guess i am so.
theres something more than you i know
i 'll never leave u
so..don't even ask
i want a love that will last..
forever.. i want a love that will last

i don't want just a memory
give me forever
don't even think about
saying goodbye
cos i..
just want one love to be enough
and remain in my heart till i die
so..
theres just a little more than i need
i want to share our end that will be...(can't hear this line properly..^_^)
i'm not the kind of girl that will complicate the past
i want a love that will last
always...
i just want a love...
that will last.

Feeling sappy already ?

look for the girl with the broken smile...

chilling to maroon 5's she will be loved.
current song on repeat mode on my discman now. haha

New additions to my room includes a nice cow mug, lots of glow-in-the-dark snowflakes, a cheery sunflower, my fav glass cup that i used as a pen holder now, my fav yellow duck 'mimi'! plus my eyore tumble toy. hahaha.

Currently quite behind time in terms of my reading. Lots of reading to be done by this weekend. I realise i play more during school days than weekends. Thanks to hall. Haha. ^_^ Finding my rythm now... seeking a balance between work and play. At the same time, actively searching for hall-external CCAs to join. Not too good to get too involved in hall such that when i leave, i hardly know any other person in my fac or out-of-hall...

Block supper tonight. I'm supposed to be doing cookies and cream brownies. Haha. Sounds good aye... but i'm actually using ready-mixes. *evil grin*. Shall impress everyone with my wonderful culinary skills. Must make a conscious effort to not eat my brownies as it's highly fattening..with all the eggs, butter, cocoa, vanilla frostings, chocolate creme... hehs, make everyone grow fat! FAT NATION! *lol*

I'm clueless about statistic. OKay, not exactly -totally- clueless, but i'm staring at my tutorial questions, and familiar as it seems (i'm sure JC stats questions were much harder!) i have no idea how to go about doing them. Maybe it's just the lazy brain syndrome.

Attended the first meeting for campus crusade just now. I'm having good feelings about my group leader. Nice girl, really nice. :) I know i tend to repeat after myself. It's another one of my idosyncracies. ^_^

About my close-to crush in hall, naa, i'm going to get over him. haha. It's just a one-time thing. So.... :)

There's a tri-fac bash on 4th sep for med, dentistry and pharm students. haha. No comments. Such bash/party/ball stuff are not for me. Clubbing sux. period. hahaha. ^_^
