favourite things.
blogger is acting up on me these days.the previous post i did a few days ago failed to get posted on the blog, and it kept showing the page whereby the post is in the process of being 'published'.
either there just isn't enough bandwidth to support the ever-increasing blogger population, or my blog is getting a little too big.
big being equivalent to old, old meaning lotsa older entries that in retrospect, seem to make more sense and are more meaningful than the recent posts. posts that sorta had more thought that went into them, lessons to be learnt, events or things worth remembering, or not, that left a perishable imprint on this blog.
i realised that my titles always have almost nothing to do with what I'd write about. mainly because what i'd initially wanted to blog about would eventually be replaced with something more frivolous and spontaneous by the time i get to the third or fourth mini-paragraph of the entry.
This is not to say that i'm one of those persons who'd shoot their mouths off before having any thought-filtering process going on in their heads, or that i'm painfully direct and straightforward.
But somehow, things that are said at-that-moment, spontaneously, or naturally (as most would say of Elizabeth Bennett in P&P), though bordering on insensitivity or lack of thought, might actually express what is really in our hearts instead of some painfully and time-stakingly contrived sentence that is meant to touch our hearts or make them go flutter-flutter, but in reality, achieves the very opposite effect.
anyway, i spent my hour and a half-long break yesterday reading 'Jane Austen's guide to Romance' by Lauren Henderson, and i was pleasantly surprised (or not) to find out that the character i'm most alike to is Jane Bennett, Elizabeth's sister in P&P. No doubt disappointed, (who in the right mind wouldn't after reading P&P and taking an instant liking to Liz Bennett's character), but i guess i was never an elizabeth at all. but sweet, straightforward, and imagining the best side to everyone, doesn't quite fit me to a T as well. so, i've come to my own conclusion, that at best, i'm a mix between Jane and Elizabeth, and probably, I'll need someone who's a mix between Bingley and Darcy as well! Ahhh! Revelation! ^_^ i will not go on about a Bingley-Darcy hybrid.
nevertheless, the book was alittle too 'preachy' for me (if you get what i mean). I recommend it for easy and light-hearted reading, not to be taken too seriously. the little anecdotes, gems of lessons to be learnt, are things or morals that society has been drilling in us ever since we started watching SBC's channel 8 drama serials as a 9 or 10 year old in primary school. however, being every bit of human as we all are, we always tend to indulge in a little fantasy and deviate from what is, or what ought to be done, that is, to look beyond the superficialness of beauty being merely skin-deep, stop getting charmed away by too-good-to-be-true guys with model looks, or be swayed away from a potential relationship because our self-constructed ideals and standards have been inadequately met although there is something special and comfortable between you and this new guy.
personally, i'm guilty of the whole standards and ideals thing. as a prelude to reading the jane austen's guide to romance yesterday, i'd received a book titled 'twentysomething' for my birthday. not that i'm nearing my wednesday already, i've barely entered tuesday mind you. anyway, i started flipping through the pages at random, and alittle too coincidentally, i came to the page about putting aside theses sorta ideals that we have about our special someone. It is only when we put them aside, and let God take over, that i guess, this THE one will appear. Just something encouraging for those out there, who, like me, are struggling to throw away our self-construed mindset of how our ONE should be, hoping for him to appear sometime in our lives, alittle something from 'twentysomething':
1. When you're ready or content or not looking, the person will arrive. (murphy's law. haha)
2. The Lord must still be working on that special someone.
3. God has the perfect person, so just be patient.
so, i guess what singletons like me should do now, is to revel in being SINGLE! to do all that we've ever wanted to do, fufill dreams of touring Europe, China, meeting up and enjoying the company of friends. Hmm, in a few years' time, i shall be attending some friend's wedding, and like what my friend mentioned at a dinner last week, i shall be going ' AHHHHhhhhhh!!!!' together with her at the table before we do the yam-sing.
haha.
