cape crusader who has a thing for black.
the cape crusader who has a thing for black.so i went to catch batman begins yesterday, alone, in the nice cool weather which would had been perfect for beaching and volleyball and sun-tanning in sentosa.
and i paid eight bucks for my ticket. have i ever complained about the recent price hike in everything from bus fares to movie ticket.. which is one of the last forms of entertainment that a person like me actually can indulge in. humph.
anyhow, batman was nice. (haha, lack of vocab once again) nice being, christian bale was good to watch though he reminded me of tom cruise the moment he had those excessive facial hair shaved off to give off the chiseled jaw, thick brows look..typical of hollywood males. and did i mention, i prefer him in coat and pants than the bat-suit. always had a thing for guys in suit. hahaha. though i'm sure most of the audience in the cinema i was in would have wished for the second part of the movie to be lengthened, i'd actually found myself liking the first half better.. the part which showed how bruce overcame the very fear that doused fear into the hearts of those who feared the law and justice. liam neeson was the mentor who was aka the leader of the league of shadows, which is some occult dedicated to fighting off injustice and crime. and then there was this supposedly rare flower (which kinda looked like a blue rose to me) which when burnt with someother substance, becomes a hallucinagent that poisons the mind into seeing the worst and most fearsome of anyone thereby leading to a state of insanity. also, theres the black vehicle, bat vehicle rather, which i found more clumsy than sleek, but served most of its purpose well. then lastly, theres katie holmes as Rachel, the DA who also happens to be bruce's love interest. love interest sounds so duh. i should just say sweetheart.. no thats worse. well, can't blame anyone for the rather insipid portrayal of rachel, afterall, the show wasn't supposed to be concentrated on her. i'm scratching my head trying to think of another actress who would be better suited to play rachel but to no avail .. i was thinking julia stiles.. or maybe sarah michelle gellar.. they both have the attorney look but appear too independent to be the damsal in distress. oh well.
enough of batman now.
just finished reading karen joy fowler's the jane austen book club.
though the book ended prematurely (in my opinion) as the last 50 pages were dedicated to short summaries of the books by austen, as well as the opinions of those who had read her books dating from people as far back as the 1800s to the most recent, 2004 which i recalled was JK Rowling.
i would suggest to anyone intending to read the book to start from the back first, namely the short summaries of the books written (and published) by austen. if not, you'd prolly find yourselves quite lost amidst the analysis of the characters and issues raised during each discussion. well, i can't exactly name a favourite heroine or hero by jane austen, but i can understand why her books have prevailed and survived harsh critics right up till today. and i'm quite tempted to go borrow pride and prejudice to have a read, though i might get quite 'stuck' in the victorian english then. emma sounds to me like a good read too though northanger abbey and persuasion struck me as not having a plot as interesting and characters as colourful as elizabeth bennet and mr darcy in p & p. but since both books have their own following, i shall decline to comment any further. :)

oh and did i mention, special sem starts this coming monday for me. though it seems like i'll still have tonnes of free time to go out, have coffee with friends and catch more movies possibly on my own (since i'm very prone to watching movies on whim, undecided till the very last minute), i'm not that optimistic though. nonetheless, i'm glad i shall be rid of some sort of boredem and slacking in front of the box. the diet and exercise plan didn't work out as hoped for, but maybe some stress plus 6 x 2 hours of being in the lab might yield some results.
the mere habit of learning to love is the thing,
and a teachableness of disposition in a young lady is a great blessing.
