f.a.i.r.f.i.e.l.d

Haha.

Today was my alma mata's family day cum funfair. I'd thought that the rain and persistent drizzle that began early this morning would dampen and ruin everything... from having good fun playing captain's ball, soccer, and basketball.. to meeting up with old old friends...seeing old teachers whose guidance didn't seem valuable while i was still in sec sch. but looking back, and looking at where i am now, those advice and lessons really mean quite abit.

Really thankful for everything today. I miss fairfield so much! I didn't feel any sense of awkwardness though i walked into school alone, taking in everything thats new and unfamiliar to me. though the physical aspects have changed quite abit, i still get the same old familiar feel, the homeness and closeness, amazingly. i don't really like the new school building. It's too... impersonal, my not-so-favourite pond and bridge are gone and transformed into this cemented open area with lots of study tables. And there are REALLY alot of study tables around...outside classrooms, outside the staff and HOD rooms...they're everywhere! Then again, i'm quite thankful that at least my juniors get nice toliets with automatic flushes these days. Toliets with nice lighting and bright red doors. Quite a nice combi aye. haha.

Meeting up with old friends is nothing but good to me. Very good in fact. there are those whom i feel a tiny weeny bit of awkwardness whenever we run out of things to say...apart from the cliche how are you...attached yet? Why does everyone have to ask if who's attached these days..does having an other half really matter that much? I choose to take things as they come. But then again, guys whom i think are not bad (and i really mean not bad at all) seem to be taken already.. haha. obviously. ^_^ i shall not go on with this whole attach-ment thing. bleah.
Ya, was saying about old friends. was really thankful to see some friends whom the last time i talked to was... sec 4 ? thats how long we've been out of touch for. and everyone seems to be doing rather well...going to nus/ntu/smu/sim etc. God is good, really. :)

Initially, i thought that the whole family day thing was rather .... well..haha..you know what i mean, but on hindsight, i think the name's apt. i'm so grateful to be part of the fairfield family. If time could rewind, i wouldn't mind relieving those secondary school days again..even if it means making the same mistakes, doing the same silly things, and going thru the horrible As again. I used to hate the school for the begining of sec1..cos my ideal school was..don't laugh..MGS.. But i'm thankful for being where i was, and i do believe God had a part to play in my parents' persistence in enrolling me in fairfield instead.

Bought a new toshiba laptop..the all white one that looks like a copy-cat of the i-book. hahaha. Bad news is, i just can't seem to configure the internet connection on the laptop for my internet use at home. What's a pc any good if i can't log onto the net!!?!? And i just checked my uni timetable..only to be horrified to see that i have lab sessions on saturday mornings. Saturday i repeat. I hate uni already. think i've said that before ya. Hms...

Going to shift into hall on sunday evening..which means..tomorrow! Sigh, and i just realised that i have tonnes of stuff to bring into hall...and i'm only going in for hall-block orientation. Ah wells, hostel can never beat home. Home will always be home to me. And i won't be blogging for the entire next week..unless oh wait. i can! thanks to wireless network in nus campus. Hahahah. till next time then... to all freshies... carpe diem~ enjoy uni life! *and i really do mean it. *

unforgetful me.

Something seems to be coming over me these days.

Firstly, i've procrastinated my dental appointment from.. last month till ... ?? was supposed to call them up to fix a new one, but, it seems i'm going to be bummed with lots of activities till semester starts. what now . Sighs.

Following, i have no idea whether i have to delcare a minor now or can i declare it in say, the second year in uni. And just when i'm about to declare my major, i see more options... theres life sciences with concentration in biology AND biomed, conc in biomed and molecular cell biology... etc.. and they didn't even bother to inform us!? How am i supposed to choose ? concentration in biology and biomed sounds ideal to me..but.. workload's not going to be easy, plus, i'm not sure if i want to go really in depth what i studied for in JC. Imagine...doing an in-depth study of protein structure..i mean, proteins are important components of our bodies , afterall, they are the fundamental component of DNA. Thing is, after the As, i don't think i have a flair for proteins.

And just yesterday, i was suppsed to have a dinner appointment at some church friend's house.. and i cleanly forgot about it! I felt so awful when they had to call and ask me if i was coming, only to hear that i didn't prepare anything for Bible study. I feel terrible now. Seems like everything is not going smoothly for me just when i'm about to enter uni. And i think i'm going to chicken out from hall... i can't imagine being independent just cos i'm in uni now.. plus, i really have to focus on my studies... gearing up to get into honours. seriously. can't afford to mess up my uni degree after all the ____ with my Os and As.

I need advice!!! anyone out there...advice!!!!!!!!

guilty.

listening to WOW worship yellow cd : You are my king

im forgiven because you were forsaken
im accepted
you were condemned
im alive and well
your spirit lives within me
because you died and rose again

amazing love how can it be
that you my king would die for me
amazing love i know its true
and it's my joy to honour you
in all i do
i honour you. . .

i love this song.  it's short, simple yet meaningful.

i feel guilty each time i spend the whole day reading trashy novels about model-like girls getting a messed up relationship, only to end up with someone tonnes better than their ex. sigh.
p-a-t-h-e-t-i-c. how can i devote so much of my time reading something so ... (fill in the blanks) and i cant even find the right word to use.  honestly, i have yet to read through the whole Bible once, and to think that the time ive spent reading such useless books could have been better spent on reading the Bible, God's word.
I really should do something about myself. One word, priorities ,  says it all.

Uni's staring in... *starts counting* about a week's time and i still feel ever so unprepared and overwhelmed. I havent gone to office of finance to pick up the cpf form...havent bought stuff for hall ... havent packed my things for hall camp which lasts for two long weeks. i mean, is there so much to orientate for? i just need to know where the toliet is,  shortest route to my room,  and the fire exit.  just being practical here. i might just skip hall camp. wait. i am skipping it.

then again, there's so many decisions to be made. and i havent a clue about taking minors and modules ec cetra. i really should spend good time reading the nus booklet and getting more info online.

all you get from love is a love song.

haha.
that carpenters song has been stuck in my head since this morning. all the carpenters' songs have that effect on me ..for days.
Bought the WOW worship cd (the yellow one) this afternoon. What's the difference between the red one and this one anway? Did the yellow one come before the red or is it the other way around? Anyway, it doesnt matter. The songs are... Listening to I could sing of your love, God of wonders, and You are my king reminds me of chapel services back in fairfield and AC...

i miss school.
i miss having school uniforms to wear.
i miss waking every morning without having to think of what to wear for school.
i miss taking in the fresh air each time i walk through the school gates, reassuring myself that today's going to be a good day.
i miss morning devotions.
i miss sitting in neat, ordered rows in the school hall, hearing chitter chatters, laughters, and eavesdropping on my neighbours sharing juicy gossips.
i miss being in lecture, noticing certain individuals.. seeing people doze off, counting the number of times i've yawned and finding out who snored.
i miss sneaking out of lessons to the toliet, and finding out that my friends are having a mini gathering in there. haha
i miss hanging out in malls after school with friends, walking aimlessly.
i miss coffee sessions that last for hours after school, consisting of discussions about the trivalest yet funniest of things.
i miss rushing down to orchard after school just so we can catch the movie on time, even though we know it's just the silly adverts we're missing out on.
i miss doing crazy things on the public buses, shouting at the top of our voices, then hushing to a whisper after someone hisses at us. haha
i miss hogging space on the mrt train in school uniforms with friends by sitting down right at the door way.
i miss having a teacher telling us to shut up.
i miss school canteen food... laksa, fishball noodles, malay rice, chicken rice, duck ee mian... and ice milo!
i miss chapels when everyone will just let themselves go, sing at the top of our voices, dancing, clapping, smiling, arms in the air... just praising the Lord.
i miss sleeping under the stars , literally on school camps.
i miss the mad rush of bathing within 5 short minutes during camps, for fear that the next person wil bang the door down.
i miss netball trainings.
i miss getting railed at by my coach.
i miss doing punishments together with my team-mates.
i miss crying after losing a tough yet close match.
i miss it when we fought so hard yet we lost.
i miss the feeling of coming home after school, switching on the tv, finding lunch on the table.
i miss sitting the school bus.
i miss carrying heavy bio, chem and A maths textbooks to school.
i miss going to school every morning, being greeted by a sea of yellow and blue.
i so miss secondary school.

home sweet home

friends was so funny yesterday, funny yet sad and it almost made me cry whenever they do those flashback thingys. Right. So I'm back. Doubt anyone missed me. HAH. ^_^ I'm not going to get myself in a sappy mood. Anyhow, I'm not going to spare you (yes, the one reading this). This entry's going to be as long as it gets man. Haha. What do you expect, i haven't been blogging for 6 days! *or isit 5 ?* Suffering from a little withdrawal symptoms now, and who said that blogging is un-addictive. ^_^ -jokes-

Definitely going to touch a little (sacarsm intended here) on the hongkong trip. Instead of droning on and on and on about my day's itinerary, thought of just making it like some numbered list. But before that, here's the typhoon bit on day 2.

_ Typhoon Alert on day 2 _
Typhoon number 8. (this warning leaflet was picked up just in front of my door when i woke up that morning)
Heavy rain and strong winds travelling at high speeds. Airport operations and shuttle bus services may be suspended.

Woke up to see signal no.3 being hoisted on friday morning. SIgnal no.3 basically means moderate rain with strong winds. Still, it's not advisable to leave the boring hotel. Ended up having the traditional english breakfast at the hotel cafe instead of thick milk tea and yummy french toasts from da pai tong. ^_^ Grr. Out in the streets, everyone held an umbrella; people were scurrying home from work. Schools and all other instituitions had been suspended early in the morning as soon as word about no.8 was let out from the hk observatory.

I was actually looking forward to walking around Mody Road (where my hotel is) to recky the plae and to feast on more yummy food plus shopping.

But on hindsight, this is my first time experiencing what it's like to be caught in the midst of a tryphoon; and hongkong being thrown into a state of national frenzy. Buses, ferries are all packed to the brim with worried people anxious to get home before first signs of the typhoon kompasu appears. The typhoon even has such a nice sounding jap like name. hahah. Btw, if you didnt know, typhoons sort of gain strength (not sure if this is the right term) only when there's water around, that's why they're much stronger when over the seas. As soon as they reach dry land, they halt to a very powerful wind, amazingly, i didn't see any trees getting uprooted.

Following, it was rain and more rain for the rest of day 2 and for day 3. Then again, the rain was pretty cool. Cool in a way, it's really just drops of water falling from the sky  without the frequent cracks of thunder and bolts of lightning unlike here in sunny (sacarsm intended here again) singapore.

The flight back to singapore was bumpy yet comfy. I think i'm weird, but i actually feel more comfortable and at ease on a flight with regular turbulance than on one that's so so stable. I guess the bumpy feeling due to turbulance actually assures me that the plane IS moving. On the topic of motion sickness, such a condition actually arises due to conflicting signals from your eye and your ears.( yes your EARS.) Your eye sees what's ahead of you, giving the body a sense of direction as to where it's moving towards. Your ears have some sort of 'balancing device' and is also involved in providing the brain with bearings; whether you're moving sideways or backwards etc. SO, on the plane, your eyes.. can't quite see that you're moving, but on the otherhand, your ears sense that you're moving forwards.
Conflicting signals sent to the brain= feeling of nausea and headache and subsequent volmiting.
Anxieties and fear snowball your treshold before you start feeling super lousy. And just in case you were thinking about motion sickness pill, the pill isnt exactly some miracle medication, it's actually a depressant that helps to curb your worries and fears plus abit of sleeping pill that makes you drowsy so you fall into a deep sleep. Like what they say, ignorance is bliss.

Okay, i'm side tracking way too much. Haha. from plane ride to motion sickness pill. heh. Oh, i forgot to mention that i caught the movie 'house of flying daggers' in hongkong. haha. Converting back, the cine tix is S$10 bucks la. Sheesh. But i guess you pay alittle more to watch it ahead of everyone else in sg. *evil laughter*  The movie was alright. Guess i only enjoyed the fighting scenes. Whoa, the way they throw the small daggers is very seh and cool la.haha. You'll know what i mean when you watch the movie opening on 29th july. Takeshi Kenishiro is..haha..good looking. And i've just realised that there's something attractive about men who ride horses and fight with bow and arrows. (link to legolas in LOTR) Bleah.

On to my 'bought' list .
  1. a nice mid-calf skirt! Surprised i actually found one. and guess what, it's the LAST piece and it's MY SIZE! *jumps up and down* haha. i've just discovered a new-found luck with long skirts. heh.
  2. 3 shirts: 2 ralph lauren one, plus a white adidas one.
  3. An adidas bag. hahahahah. It's only 20 sg bucks.
  4. Lots of japanese goodies.
  5. More japanese stuff...sanrio stuff mainly.
  6. A really nice notebook with a purple velvet cover.

Right. i'm not going to list down everything here. Some of the things are meant to be gifts! haaha. okies. So i'm fine and well... still tired. Think i'll go back to sleep.

SQ 866.

In about 13 hours' time, i'll be leaving for the airport, on my way to hongkong.

Haha. Can't wait. Though i have abit of airplane phobia that was 'aquired' recently as a result of major volmitting on the plane...other than that, the only thing im worried about is whether i have enough baggage space to stuff all my barangs from hongkong.

Shopping list:
1. Nice, mid-calf, A-line skirt. prefably in dark colours.
2. New bag. Hope the crumpler bags there are cheaper. heh
3. Gilmore Girls DVD (season 1), i saw it priced at 100 bucks at HMV la..total rip off.
4. Jap dramas VCD/ love revolution, and long vacation.
5. ANYother thing that i happen to see, like, and there's my size.

Yep, so this blog is going to face stagnation for the next few days, until monday...then again, maybe till Wednesday. I'm thinking of going for the windsurf camp on 20 & 21st july. Whoa. I'll be totally exhausted by the end of next week.

flu bug.

Had this sudden urge to blog though i've been telling myself to try not to blog everyday as people will get tired of reading my daily nonsense. hahaha.

Okay, yes.. back to proper stuff.
I think i'm coming down with a horrible bout of flu. My throat hurts, it's as though there's a lump at my tonsils... Argh. Just when i'm about to leave for hongkong in 3 days' time, i have to show symptoms of a flu. Bad bad bad. I'm going to have to abstain from all forms of cocoa, fried food, chilli (oh man), and stick to a strict diet of losa fruits and veggies for the vitamin Cs and antibodies to fight this irritating 'bug'.

Oh yes, and about the hongkong trip, my mum just told me about it on saturday, just after i came home from camp. hahaha. This is very surprising, considering that my mum is one of the most organised person that i know, and it's really unlike her to book air tix and hotel accommodation at the last minute. Well, people do change as they get older. ^_^ It's going to be major eating, sleeping and shopping session in hongkong *as usual*. Man, i love the food there; their breakfast, congee, dim sum, ta pai tong etc. heh. Can't wait to go there.

Yep, meantime, i'm going to have a very good rest for the whole of tomorrow. Hopefully the bad throat will just go away ya. Hahaha.

i'm back!

Sports camp was suppose to end at noon today but i went off at 3 in the morning as i didn't want to stay overnight above the squash courts in sleeping bags.

All in all, the camp was good. My whole body feels utterly sore from the activities. The camp was supposed to be a 6 day event, but i booked out on day 3 and 4 cos i was coming down with a flu thanks to being drenched in the rain while playing 'soccer', handball, archery, netball, and softball. So, i had 2 days of very good sound sleep while my mates were out in camp feeling drained and sleep-deprived. haha. Following, i went back on camp fire night, did some super minor role in the skit and stayed on till friday which was the day of sports bash. Sports bash was basically clubbing night at madam wong2.(can you believe that i actually thought it was some teacher's house?) After that experience, i don't think i'm EVER going to such places again. Firstly, i cant move like those people, next, i don't drink, and lastly, i don't wish to feel as though my ear drums are about to burst through-out the time there. and did i mention, that the true colours of certain individuals show when they club and i hate having to witness their 'revelation'. In short, i TOTALLY did not enjoy myself at the bash. clubbing sux. period. hahahhaha. ^_^

Think my only regret would be missing the sea sports on days 3 and 4. I mean, how often do you get to dragon-boat as a team, kayak, canoe, learn wind-surfing, and wake-board all in a day? My OG was kinda okay, though i would say they are not my ideal og-mates. The guys in my OG were trying to hit on my friend. It was so darn obvious that whenever she was around, their faces would all light up and they would start behaving animatedly. hahaha. Okay, i'm not being jealous here. But i really question their purpose for going to this camp. I had quite a bit of cultural shock too during my 4 days at camp. I honestly think i've been living too sheltered a life that i'm so naive and ignorant about certain things and characters, characters especially. By the way, i don't think i'm ever going to be attached to someone who smokes. Not being discriminating here, i mean, we live in a free society, just that, i still have personal issues about smoking that i've yet to resolve and i don't think i ever will. Oh wait, i forgot to mention that my only consolations for the camp was that i've found a new interest in archery (wanna join archery in uni man!), and that there was a guy in my friend's og that resembled edison chen. edison chen,i repeat.

Welcome to the real world.
Now, i'm seriously having second thoughts about staying in the uni hall. Home is truly the bestest place to be in.

sun-day.

I love reading the sunday times and sunday plus.
The lay-out of the whole paper is so neat and organised. SPH really deserved the award for best newspaper in asia that they'd won sometime back.

My favourite articles are usually those written by sumiko tan and janadas devan. I'm sure the name sumiko tan sounds very familiar to you. She's the sunday plus editor who writes about her dogs, her addiction for reality tv progammes and basically any other light-hearted yet relevant issues. On the other-hand, janadas devan dwells more on linguistics and language. His writing style might be a little difficult to understand but there's humour involved, and it's interesting to read more about linguistics.

I have a confession to make. I'm not really a fan of newspapers, especially the weekday issues, but seeing the sunday times at my door-step on a sunday morning really does brighten my day, and i actually look forward to reading from cover to cover, almost every article inside apart from the invest section. I may have said this before, but i really think that singaporeans are being encouraged to read more often, especially with the revamped and more chic image of our community libraries plus newspapers that are worth reading, and they should!

Afterall, you are what you read. I think meg ryan said that in the movie 'you've got mail'. But i believe there's the element of truth in it.

Well, i'm going to be off for my camp tomorrow morning, which means, this blog is going to face stagnation for the whole week, at least until saturday. In the meantime, drop something on my tag-board!!! haha.

Holland VS Portugal.. 1-2

I'm not going to start whining and mopping just cos my favourite team got beaten rather badly and will not be playing in this yr's euro finals.
Yep. In fact, i think they deserved it. Maybe it was over-confidence that led to their downfall.

All i can say is, all the best to portugal in the finals, and i really do mean it, especially with the number of yellow cards the team's chalked up, with one stupid one being accumulated by dear ronaldo just cos he took off his shirt after scoring that nice header. Silly mistake. He really should have known better.

I'm all for a czech vs portugal show-down.
Like i said before, i'm all for the czechs now. ^_^
